Summary: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention between 1999 and 2017 the age-adjusted suicide rate in the U.S. climbed 33 percent, from 10.5 to 14 deaths per 100,000 people. Rates of suicide in 2020 are estimated to double before the end of the year.
The challenges of the COVID-19 present a whole new realm of risk factors for suicide. In fact, the requirements for safety (e.g. social distancing, quarantine, etc.) during the pandemic render many of the protective factors against suicidal behavior difficult if not impossible to obtain - factors such as connection with community, family, and social institutions, a sense of agency and an ability to make changes in ones life, as well as access to primary coping skills.
Risk factors for suicidal behavior are also exponentially increasing during the pandemic. Increased stress, burn out, an inability to grieve those who have been lost, shame, unemployment, and increasing rates of alcohol and drug abuse are all triggers for an increased likelihood of suicidal ideation and engagement in suicidal behaviors. Being able to successfully assess for suicide risk, to understand the neurobiology of suicide (yes! The research exists!), and be able to define and utilize clear interventions for suicide prevention and resilience development are crucial for treatment success.
Join Dr. Truitt in an in-depth exploration of suicidality and empowered healing with the Havening Techniques. In this advanced topics workshop we will explore the neurobiology of suicidality, discuss new paradigms for navigating the underlying frameworks of suicidal ideation, and identify new opportunities for powerful healing with the Havening Techniques for working individuals living in the shadow of deeply painful suicidal considerations.
Note: Completion of the Havening Techniques Certification Training is a requirement to attend this seminar. The seminar is a Level 2 Havening Techniques Seminar.
